Nguy?n scores 10th goal of her career in the draw on the road

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – It was a competitive Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wisc. for the St. Thomas Women's Soccer team as they tied Marquette 1-1. Mariah Nguyen scored the Tommies' only goal of the game, her score was the 10th of her career. She is the only Tommie to eclipse the 10-goal mark in the DI era.

Olivia Rowe had herself a game as she saved three shots for the Tommies, one of which came as time expired to seal the hard-fought draw.

RECAP
The Tommies kicked the game off fast with their first shot coming in the second minute. Four minutes later, St. Thomas produced another great shot but just not on target. The Tommies continued to dial up the pressure as they created scoring opportunities left and right. St. Thomas held Marquette without a shot until the 21-minute mark.

The Tommies eventually overwhelmed the Golden Eagles with their offense as Mariah Nguyen scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute. Shortly after, Marquette responded with a goal of their own at 27'. The defense tightened up for both teams as neither team scored for the remainder of the first half.

Heading into the break, St. Thomas outshot the Golden Eagles (5-4). The Tommies also committed two less fouls and had one corner kick.

To begin the second half, Marquette came out firing with three shots in the first 10 minutes. St. Thomas successfully defended all three of the Golden Eagles shots with Olivia Rowe making her first save of the game. St. Thomas produced a shot of their own 15 minutes into the second half. Scoring opportunities came at a premium as the defenses remained stifling in the second half.

With 10 minutes left, Olivia Rowe made her second save of the game. With four minutes remaining, St. Thomas created a shot which was saved by the Marquette keeper. Olivia Rowe made the play of the game by rejecting a shot at 90:00 resulting in a 1-1 tie for the Tommies.

TOP TOMMIES
· Junior Mariah Nguyen scored her fifth goal of the season and 10th of her career. She is the first Tommie to ten goals in DI program history.
· Olivia Rowe made three saves on 11 shots. With today's effort she has held opponents to one goal or less in six of seven games this season.

QUOTABLES
Head coach, Sheila McGill on her team's 1-1 tie with the Marquette Golden Eagles

"I thought we came out strong and created lots of opportunities in the first 15 to 20 minutes. We had a great pick off by Mariah with a great finish. Unfortunately, they came back pretty quickly to score one. After that, we fought tooth and nail the rest of the game, back-and-forth, creating opportunities and defending strong as a unit. It was a great team performance."
