Women's soccer's McGill to not return

ST. PAUL, MINN. - The University of St. Thomas Vice President, Director of Athletics Phil Esten announced on Monday that head women's soccer coach Sheila McGill will not return.
McGill coached her 300th game at St. Thomas during the 2024 season and led St.Thomas' inaugural season of Division I play in the fall of 2021. The Tommie women's soccer team wrapped up the 2025 campaign with a record of 3-9-4 overall, finishing 0-5-3 in the Summit League. McGill compiled an overall record of 21-45-16 in five seasons of Division I competition.
"I want to thank Sheila for her dedication and commitment to our women's soccer program over the past nearly two decades," said Esten. "Coach McGill was a steadfast leader during our Division III years, and as we transitioned from the MIAC to the Summit League, Sheila has provided steady leadership for our program. We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career."
The three-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Coach of the Year and three-time NCAA Division III Region Coaches of the Year, McGill led her team to four regular season MIAC Championships and two MIAC Tournament Championships. Coach McGill compiled an overall record of 163-68-29 in 14 Division III seasons.
Jean-Yves Viardin will serve as the program's interim head coach, and a national search will commence immediately.
