Alvarez records first start in goal
DES MOINES, IOWA — The University of St. Thomas (0-2-0) was defeated by Drake University (2-2-0), 2-0, on Sunday at Mediacom Stadium. Despite three saves from the Tommies' goalkeeper in the second half, the team was unable to overcome Drake's two-goal performance.
First Half
- The opening 15 minutes were marked by persistent fouling, with the Tommies committing five fouls and Drake committing three.
- Drake's Isabella Balsley took two off-target shots at 22:38 and 29:30, while Angela Gutierrez hit the top woodwork at 15:48.
- The first half set the tone for what would be a physical contest. The score remained tied at 0-0 going into the break.
Second Half
- At 47:27, Angela Gutierrez opened the scoring for Drake with a goal, assisted by Alma Beaton.
- In the 73rd minute, Trelyn White's shot for Drake was saved by Sophia Alvarez, maintaining the pressure on St. Thomas.
