Krenc makes nine saves in a loss to the Flames
CHICAGO, Ill. – It was another strong effort for Tommie Soccer at Flames Field in a Sunday Matinee. The Tommies found themselves in a three-goal deficit going into the second half, but battled back by increasing their shot total, and reducing UIC's offensive opportunities.
Offensively, the Tommies launched four shots and put three on goal, but could not put any past UIC's goalkeeper. While the Flames scored three goals in the first half, the Tommies' defense shut down the Flames in the second half.
RECAP
UIC's offense was generated by their experienced core, starting early in the first half when graduate student Sidney Warden put one past the Tommies' Mortiz Krenc on a penalty kick in the opening minute of play. The Flames continued to capitalize on their offensive opportunities when six minutes after their first goal, junior Josh Torres scored the second of the afternoon for UIC.
After the second goal for the UIC, the Purple defense slowed the Flames push until the 42nd minute of play when UIC's Adres Lemus put the third goal of the afternoon past the Tommies.
Moritz Krenc remained active throughout the entirety of the game, defending six out of the nine shots on goal during the first 45 minutes of play and all three shots on net in the second half. Nearing the end of the first half, the freshman made two key saves against the Flames offensive rush and rebound chance. The Tommies recorded one shot on net during the first half.
During the second half the Tommies increased their scoring chances, recording three shots, and putting two on net. The Flames kept pushing, but the Tommie defense put up a brick wall, defending all nine shots, allowing only three on net.
