Tommies stunned 13-12 after Aggies walk-off home run

5/19/2023 11:06:00 PM | Baseball

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- St. Thomas baseball and New Mexico State continued its trend of back-and-forth play Friday as the Tommies fell 13-12 on a walk-off home run at Presley Askew Field.

Trailing 10-8 heading into the eighth inning, the Tommies strung together three consecutive two-out singles, the final of which was a two-RBI knock by Charlie Bartholomew to tie the game. The Aggies' first two batters of the home half reached base, the second of which drove in a run to regain the lead.

Two walks and a wild pitch set up Matthew Enck with a go-ahead two RBI single in the ninth, giving the Tommies a 12-11 lead. New Mexico State led off the bottom half with a single before sending out a two-run home run to tie the series.

Brigs Richartz went 4-of-6 from the plate, his second four-hit game of the season. He opened the game with a two-run home run in the first inning before following in the second with a two-RBI single. Max Moris and Joe Vos recorded three hits, Vos going 3-of-3 with two runs scored and was a triple shy of the cycle.

The Tommies neared a season high with 16 hits, eight of which came with runners on base. The Aggies recorded 10 hits and put its lead-off batter on base in every inning.

St. Thomas concludes its series and the 2023 season at 12 p.m. (CT) Saturday.
