Lincoln, Neb. -- Tommie Men's Golf struggled in windy conditions on Monday's second round of the Summit League tournament, and will need a bounce-back day on Tuesday's final 18 holes to post a top-five team finish.
St. Thomas started Monday's round in third place out of 10 teams after Sunday's 305 score, but managed just a 313 score on Monday. The Purple recorded only three birdies on the day.
Denver (593) had Monday's best round at 289 and opened up a seven-shot lead on Kansas City and Oral Roberts (600 each).
North Dakota State (603) and Omaha (608) lead the next tier, followed by South Dakota (616), St. Thomas (618), North Dakota (619), South Dakota State (621) and Western Illinois (623).
St. Thomas junior Matthew Armstrong carded a 78 and is tied for 13th place in a field of 50 players at 151. He had two early birdies but had an uncharacteristic four double bogeys over his final 10 holes of the day.
Matthew Garside parred eight of his last nine holes on the way to his 76 and is tied for 20th place at 153.
Matthew Raab shot 79, and Will Frazier and Owen Rexing each shot 80s.
St. Thomas, which placed eighth in the 2022 conference meet, came into this year's event seeded fifth based on season stroke average.
