Manhattan, Kan. -- St. Thomas Baseball put up its second highest hit total of the season Tuesday night despite an 11-3 loss at Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.
The Tommies racked up 11 hits through the nine-inning affair, including five within the first two innings to take a 1-0 lead.
Brigs Richartz, who finished the game 3-of-4 from the plate with one RBI, led off the game with a single through the left side and his fifth leadoff hit of the season. The Toms later put two runners on to load the bases with two outs before a fly out ended the top half of the first.
Colin Lewandowski, who has hits in the last three games, sent a double down the left field line with one out in the second inning. Richartz came up with his second hit with two outs to score the game's first run.
Nolan Kemp (0-2) left just one batter on base through the first two innings before Kansas State struck with four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third. Kemp finished throwing 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and three walks allowed.
St. Thomas led off its third of five innings with a hit, this time from Ben Vujovich. Dylan O'Connell followed with a single before Charlie Bartholomew drove in Vujovich on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2.
KSU answered with one run in the fifth and three in each of the sixth and eighth before St. Thomas scored its final run on a fielding error in the ninth.
The Tommies' 11 hits were the most for the team since recording 14 during game two of a doubleheader March 4 at Saint Louis. The Purple left 11 runners stranded while holding eight Wildcat runners on base.
St. Thomas and Kansas State close out the midweek series Wednesday at 6 p.m. from Tointon Family Stadium.
