Tommies get behind Maurer's 32-save shutout and ride three goals from three players to a 3-0 WCHA victory
2/3/2023 5:31:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Bemidji, Minn. – The Tommies were led by a 32-save shutout performance from their sophomore goaltender, Saskia Maurer, and three well-timed goals from three different skaters in their 3-0 victory over the Bemidji State Beavers on the road at the Sanford Center on Friday afternoon.
Maurer added another line to her impressive resume against the Beavers. After Friday's phenomenal 32 saves in her third career shutout (and third of the season), the sophomore is now 2-0-0 against Bemidji with a combined 60 saves for a .984 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average.
The Tommies scored one goal in each period, each coming around midway through their respective frames.
Allie Monrean got things started for the Purple with a little help from Abby Promersberger, who assisted on the play. Monrean and Promersberger remain tied as the all-time leading scorers against Bemidji State with five points apiece.
The second period goal came off Lauren Stenslie's stick when she captured a rebounded Brieja Parent shot from the goaltender's right pad. In the Tommies' last victory against the Beavers the Stenslie, Parent, Haug line combined for three goals and six points in their 5-2 win on home ice.
St. Thomas' final tally came from their captain, Anna Solheim. Solheim grabbed her first missed shot in the sequence after the goaltender coughed it up and then rocketed one just inside the outside pipe and into the back of the net. The goal was Solheim's 11th point of the season and second goal in three games.
The Tommies were out-shot in the game 32 to 21, but Maurer kept them in it the entire way and timely shooting were all the team needed to catapult themselves to victory.
