Parent scores but Women's Hockey cannot complete series sweep falling 4-1 at Bemidji State

2/4/2023 4:33:00 PM | Women's Hockey

Bemidji, Minn. – St. Thomas Women's Hockey out shot the Bemidji State Beavers but could not out duel their opponent, falling 4-1 on the road at the Sanford Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers could not beat Tommie goaltender Saskia Maurer in game one, the sophomore pitched a 32-save shutout. They had the answer for Maurer in game two getting one in just seven seconds into their first power play, 12:50 into the opening period.

Bemidji State never looked back, leading the rest of the way. The Beavers scored two more in the second period and had a third goal overturned due to goaltender interference.

The Tommies' lone goal of the game was scored by Breija Parent. Luci Bianchi flung forward a well-placed pass to Parent who was streaking up center ice through the neutral zone. Parent, with a defender draped all over her back, stick handled onto her backhand and sent a shot passed Abbie Thompson.

Bemidji State shut the door in the third period scoring one more 8:47 into the frame.

Saskia Maurer made 19 saves in net for St. Thomas.

That's a Fact
  • Brieja Parent has scored a point in three of four games against Bemidji State this season.
  • Saskia Maruer has surpassed the 500 save mark this season for the first time in her career. She saved 384 shots in 11 games last season. With Maurer's 506 saves in 17 games this year, she is averaging 29.8 saves per game, third most in the WCHA.
  • The Tommies out shot the Beavers 31 to 23. This is just their second loss of the season when outshooting their opponent.
  • This is the Tommies final weekend of the season against an unranked opponent. They finish the season with No. 1 Ohio State, and No. 3 Minnesota before the first round of the WCHA playoffs.
