2/23/2023 9:06:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving

Minneapolis, Minn. -- Sophomore Joe Rudd broke an eight-year-old Tommie program record for the 200 IM in Thursday prelims to highlight performances for St. Thomas Men's Swim-Dive in day two of the Summit League Championships.

With two days down and two to come, Eastern Illinois (86 points), St. Thomas (83) and Southern Indiana (77) are in a tight battle for seventh place in the nine-team field. Denver (315) leads Lindenwood (289.5) atop the standings, and both have built a commanding lead over third-place South Dakota (169).

Rudd clocked 1:50.01 for his record, eclipsing Mike Lanz' 1:50.26 mark from 2015. In Thursday night's 200 IM finals, Rudd scored 11 team points with an eighth-place finish. Rudd has alreadt set program records in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, and will look to lower those records this weekend.

In one-meter diving, Dakotah Parker (289.85) placed fourth for 15 points, and Ben Linde (225.10) took 11th place for six points.

In the 500 free, sophomore Alex Foti took 16th place in 4:37.46. His 4:34.69 time in the prelims was a personal best and is No. 3 on the program's all-time list.

St. Thomas' 200 free relay was disqualified in the Thursday night session.

Friday's action starts with a prelim round at 10 a.m.
