Rudd and Urkiel break 100 breaststroke records as Swim & Dive continues conference championships

St. Paul, Minn. -- For the second straight day, Joe Rudd and Grace Urkiel broke St. Thomas Swim & Dive program records at the 2023 Summit League Championships.
The Tommies wrapped up the third day of the championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center while totaling eight top-10 program times.
Rudd and Urkiel's records broke their own previous marks in the 100 breaststroke set earlier this season. Urkiel finished fourth in the event at the conference championships with a time of 1:02.46 while Rudd took sixth with a time of 54.51 on Friday. Urkiel beat her previous record by 0.65 seconds and Rudd beat his record by 0.47 seconds, both set in December at the SCSU Rochester invitational.
Philip Jensen finished seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.01, which ranks third all-time in program history and AJ Carollo took 14th in the event with a time of 50.82, which ranks eighth all-time at St. Thomas
In the 100 backstroke on the women's side, Sophie Curran took seventh with a time of 56.33 to rank fourth all-time in program history.
Luke Ridler swam the sixth fastest 200 freestyle in St. Thomas history, taking 19th at the Summit League Championships with a time of 1:41.48. Jensen took 13th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.73, which is sixth in program history, while Hiro McKee took 18th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.38, which is 10th all-time at St. Thomas.
Allison An led the divers with a ninth place finish in the 3m dive with a score of 239.80.
The women's 400 medley relay team took sixth with a time of 3:49.68 while the men's 400 medley relay also finished sixth with a time of 3:20.71.
St. Thomas wraps up the 2023 Summit League Championships as the prelims begin at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m.
