Men's Golf shares ninth out of 16 in first meet of 2023

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Tommie Men's Golf shot a 297 in Tuesday's third and final round of the Mickey Mouse Invitational at the Disney complex and tied for ninth place out of 16 teams.

Playing its first tourney since October, St. Thomas shot 300-289-297 for an 886 total.

Wofford College won the team crown by 22 strokes over runner-up IUPUI of Indianapolis. The Toms finished just 12 shots out of second place, and just seven shots separated fourth-place Bellarmine from 11th-place Tennessee-Martin in a tight logjam of teams.

Will Frazier led the Tommies on the tournament as he tied for 13th place out of 91 players at 218. He shot even-par 72 on Tuesday highlighted by five birdies. Frazier had 13 birdies and one eagle over his 54 holes.

Freshman Owen Rexing and senior Matthew Garside tied for 27th place at 221. Rexing shot par 72 on Monday and again on Tuesday, with four birdies on Tuesday. Rexing had two eagles and eight birdies on thr tourne. Garside closed with a 76 on Tuesday despite carding four birdies on the final round and 11 birds over three rounds.

Matthew Armstrong shot 77 on Tuesday and tied for 51st place.

The Purple are off competition for the next five weeks. They play again April 3-4 in the Quad Cities at the Deere Run TPC tourney, the first of three tune-up events before the April 40 and May 1-2 conference tournament.
