Bakersfield, Calif. -- St. Thomas Baseball notched its first win of the season Saturday as part of a doubleheader split at CSU Bakersfield. The Tommies brought a no-hitter into the sixth inning before an 8-1 loss and closed with their first win of the season, 8-4, to wrap up the day.

Game One – St. Thomas 1, CSU Bakersfield 8
Jacob Mrosko began the game on the mound for the Tommies and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before it was broken up on a one-out double down the left field line. Mrosko exited the game before a single during the next at-bat and a wild pitch scored the game-tying run.

Earlier during the top of the sixth inning, St. Thomas grabbed its only lead as Dylan O'Connell reached base on a single and advanced to third on a fielding error in left field. Charlie Bartholomew followed with a sac fly to drive in O'Connell and give the Purple a 1-0 lead.

Back in the bottom of the sixth, the Roadrunners scored six runs on four hits and three walks, including a three-RBI triple with two outs. Brigs Richartz and Ben Vujovich each singled in the top of the seventh inning for the Tommies' only baserunners through the final three innings.

Mrosko finished the game throwing 5.1 innings with four strikeouts, three walks, one hit, and one earned run allowed. Bartholomew went 1-for-2 from the plate with one RBI and one walk. Tanner Marsh and Max Moris each recorded a hit and one walk, wrapping up St. Thomas' six hits in the game.

Game Two – St. Thomas 8, CSU Bakersfield 4
The Tommies again took the first lead of game two as Richartz led off the game with one of his three hits. A throwing error and an RBI ground out by Vujovich allowed Richartz to cross the plate, while O'Connell followed with an RBI ground out during the next at-bat to push the St. Thomas lead to 2-0.

CSUB added one run in the home half of the first inning, leaving two runners stranded, before tying the game on two singles and a St. Thomas throwing error in the second. Richartz led off the third inning with another single and scored on another RBI by Vujovich. Bartholomew and Sam Kulesa recorded back-to-back RBI singles with two outs to give the Purple a 5-2 lead.

The Tommies put just three runners on base through the eighth inning while the Roadrunners added one run in each of the fourth and sixth frames to draw within one, 5-4. Richartz's final hit of the game, a lead-off single in the ninth set up a three-run inning to give St. Thomas a cushion and a four-run lead, 8-4. Vujovich drove in two RBI on a single to right field and was later drove in by Bartholomew on another single to right field.

The Roadrunners' first two hitters reached base on walks but Carl Cano drew a fly out, a strikeout, and a ground out to close out the Tommies' first win of the season.

Richartz went 3-of-5 with three runs scored while Vujovich finished 2-of-5 from the plate with four RBI and two runs. Bartholomew also went 2-of-5 hitting and drove in two RBI. Kulesa recorded the final Tommies hit of the game and drove in one RBI.

The Tommies struck out just three times in the game while Tommies starter Evan Esch (1-0) finished with four strikeouts, six hits, four walks, and three earned runs allowed. Duke Coborn and Cano closed out the final 4.0 innings for St. Thomas with no runs allowed and four strikeouts.

St. Thomas will aim to even the four-game series with the final game at 3 p.m. (CT) Sunday at Hardt Field in Bakersfield, Calif.
