Rosemont, Ill. – St. Thomas' second year pitcher, Ella Cook, gave all that she could in the Tommies' 5-2 defeat to St. Louis University at the DePaul Dome Tournament on Saturday night.
The Iowa City native pitched all seven innings in the circle for the Tommies. Cook struck out four, walked five, and allowed five runs to cross the plate (only two of which were earned). This was the first complete game of the young hurler's career for St. Thomas.
Cook's contributions were not limited to the circle. The sophomore batted sixth in the lineup and tallied two hits and a walk. Her most impactful at bat came in the bottom of the second inning when she sent a moonshot high off the roof of the Rosemont Dome for her first collegiate homerun to cut the Billikens lead in half, 2-1.
Grace Bennett brought home another Tommie run in the contest on her base hit in the bottom of the fourth. Kameron Monson was the other St. Thomas bat to reach base safely via the hit. Brooke Ellestad reached on a walk and Avery Wukawitz was hit by a pitch late in the game.
The Tommies' legs were working on the basepaths; Avery Wukawitz, Mack Rudy, and Kenzie Miller each stole one base throughout the game.
Up Next
The Tommies will conclude the DePaul Dome Tournament with a rematch against Creighton at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
