Women’s Hockey falls to #7/8 Duluth in series opener, 3-1

Monrean scores third period goal and Malecha records 32 saves in loss to the Bulldogs on Friday
DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey played their first game on the road this season against Minnesota-Duluth. St. Thomas fell to the Bulldogs, 3-1 on Friday night at Amsoil Arena.
RECAP
In game one of the weekend series, the Bulldogs opened scoring 3:51 into the first period. The Bulldogs added their second of the night at the midpoint of the first period. The Tommies had one of their seven power play opportunities late in the period, adding two shots on goal, but were unable to put one past Duluth's Hailey MacLeod.
The Bulldogs scored their final goal of the night at the 6:49 mark of the second period, extending their lead 3-1. Through two periods, Malecha recorded 27 saves for the Tommies.
The Bulldogs were called for four penalties in the second period, including two at the end of the second frame. The Tommies began the third period five on three, but came up empty on this two-player advantage.
With 11:05 remaining in the game, Allie Monrean scored for the Tommies and cut the Bulldog's lead, 3-1. Monrean scored her second of the season, unassisted. The Tommies outshot the Bulldogs in the third period, 10-5, and totaled 24 shots on goal throughout the 60 minutes of play.
Malecha finished the night stopping 32 of 35 shots on goal in the Tommies 3-1 conference loss.

· Allie Monrean scored the Tommies' lone goal of the night. Monrean went 7 for 11 on the face off dot, winning 64% of her faceoffs tonight.
· Maggie Malecha stopped 32 shots and posted a .914 SV% against the Bulldogs
· Maddy Clough recorded four shots on goal tonight for the Tommies.
