ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas (3-5-0, 1-5-0) lost to St. Cloud St. (6-2-0, 4-0-0) 1-0 Saturday. St. Thomas put 22 shots on goal and got 27 saves, but St. Cloud St. scored the game's lone goal in the third period.

St. Thomas generated the first series of chances, with Ella Boerger, Chloe Boreen, Kenleigh Fischer and Cara Sajevic all putting shots on Emilia Kyrkkö in the opening minutes. St. Cloud St. turned the pressure after Nora Sauer was called for cross-checking at 10:42, but Daniela Novakova made multiple saves and St. Thomas returned to full strength at 8:42. The visitors continued to get looks near the middle of the first period before the Tommies created late attempts from Boerger, Josie Skoogman, Ellie Stewart, Cailin Mumm, Boreen and Fischer, and the first period ended without a goal.

Early in the second period, St. Thomas had to defend after Mumm was called for interference at 18:49, and the penalty kill held as Novakova made a save while Sajevic, Sydney Bryant and Jenessa Gazdik blocked St. Cloud St. attempts. After that kill, the Tommies generated a series of looks, with Maddie Brown, Jenessa Gazdik, JuliAnna Gazdik and Sajevic having shots saved by Kyrkkö. Mumm went back to the box for tripping at 11:00, but St. Thomas again kept St. Cloud St. off the board during the advantage. Novakova made additional saves down the stretch, and Boreen had a shot saved at :02 as the second period ended without a goal.

The early third-period chances went to St. Thomas, with Boreen testing Kyrkkö twice in the opening minute and additional attempts from Mumm, Whitney Horton, Maya Engler and Sajevic. St. Cloud St. built pressure through the middle of the period, and Siiri Yrjölä scored at 8:46 off assists from Sofianna Sundelin and Madelyn Lee to put the visitors ahead 1-0. St. Thomas called a timeout with 3:11 left, then went on a late power play after Maria Mikaelyan's high-sticking penalty at 2:39, creating chances from Boreen, Stewart, Mumm, Fischer and JuliAnna Gazdik. Kyrkkö and the St. Cloud St. penalty kill kept the final push out, and St. Cloud St. closed out the 1-0 result.
