Men’s Hockey signs nine after National Signing Day 2024

Head Coach Rico Blasi’s staff signed nine student-athletes to join the Tommie Men’s Hockey team.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas Men's Hockey head coach Rico Blasi announced the 2024 Tommie Signing Class this past week. 
 
The class features nine student-athletes, seven from Minnesota and one from Pennsylvania and Missouri.

Owen Buesgens (D, 5-8 165, Victoria, Minn. / Chanhassen)
The right-handed defenseman joins the Tommies from Chanhassen High School. At Chanhassen Buesgens was named to the West Metro All-Conference team two times and tallied 40 points in 52 games while playing high school hockey for head coach Sean Bloomfield. Owen is currently playing hockey for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL. He as two points in 14 games. 
 
He is the son of Keith and Mary Buesgens and has two siblings (Zach and Paige). Owen plans to major in Business and Finance. 
 
Bobby Cowan (F, 5-10 181, Edina, Minn. / Edina)
Cowan is a right-handed shooter and plays forward. He will join St. Thomas after playing high school hockey for Curt Giles at Edina High School. While at Edina, Cowan was named to the Lake All-Conference team and was a part of a state tournament qualifying squad. Bobby scored 17 goals and added 21 assists in his final 30 games in high school. He is currently playing for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL, he has one point in nine games. 
 
He is the son of Bob and Jennifer Cowan and has one sibling (Patrick). His father, Bob, played college hockey for Providence. Cowan plans to study in Business and Real Estate. 
 
Gavin Garry (F, 6-2 185, Minnetonka, Minn. / Minnetonka)
The left-handed forward joins the Tommies as one of three in the class from Minnetonka High School. Garry is a two-time selection to the Lake All-Conference team and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Minnesota State Tournament. In two years for Minnetonka Gavin played 58 games and tallied 76 points for head coach Sean Goldsworthy. He was also a selection to the honor roll while in school. He is currently playing for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL and has seven points in 14 games. 
 
He is the son of Stacey and John and has two siblings (Luke and Will). Gavin plans to study business while at St. Thomas. 
 
Luke Garry (F, 5-11 155, Minnetonka, Minn. / Minnetonka)
The left-handed forward will be joining his brother Gavin in purple after playing in Minnetonka. He contributed 25 points in 31 games to a state champion team under coach Goldsworthy. 
 
He is the son of John and Stacey and has two brothers (Gavin and Will). His major is currently undecided. 
 
Rhett "Kaeden" Hawkins (F, 6-0 180, St. Louis, Mo. / Shattuck St. Mary's)
Hawkins is a left-handed forward from Missouri but has spent three years at Minnesota's Shattuck St. Mary's in Fairbault. In his final seasons at Shattuck, he tallied 66 points in 77 games under head coach Tom Ward. He added 100 points in 62 games while playing for Shattuck at the 18U AAA level. 
 
He is the son of Rhett and Jennifer and has one sibling (Delphine). Kaeden's major is currently undecided. 
 
Alex Lunski (F, 6-4 205, Minnetonka, Minn. / Minnetonka)
The left-handed forward is the final of three signees in the class from Minnetonka High School. Alex earned 38 points in 51 games under coach Goldsworthy. He is currently playing for the Chippewa Steel of the NAHL and has six points in 16 games. 
 
He is the son of Chad and Jessica Lunski and has one sibling (Bryn). Both of his parents played college athletics: his mother, Jessica played volleyball at Northern State University and father, Chad, played football at Northern State. Alex plans to study business. 
 
Jackson "Jack" Potulny (F, 6-4 188, White Bear Lake, Minn. / Shattuck St. Mary's)
Jack is a left-handed forward from White Bear Lake and played prep hockey with Hawkins at Shattuck St. Mary's. He scored 16 goals and added 11 assists in 23 games last season. He Is a multi-time selection to the honor roll. 
 
Jack is the son of Grant and Melissa and has two siblings (Owen and Charlotte). His father grant is the current head coach of the Tommies' CCHA for Northern Michigan and played college hockey at the University of Minnesota. 
 
Drew Roelofs (F, 6-3 190, Minnetrista, Minn. / Holy Family Catholic)
Roelofs shoots from the right and played forward for Holy Family Catholic where he skated in 26 games for Erik Westrum with 29 points. Drew was named to his school's President's List, was a team captain, and earned the Student Athlete of the Year honor at Holy Family. 
 
He is the son of Rick and Julie and has one sibling (Luke). His major is currently undecided. 
 
Ajay White (G, 6-2 185, Bryn Mawr, Penn. / Saint Joseph's Prep School) 
White recorded a 2.18 goals against average and .911 save percentage for David Giacoman at Saint Joseph's last season. He currently plays with Alex Lunski in the NAHL for the Chippewa Steel. He has made 12 appearances in net with a 6-4-1 record, 2.42 goals against average, and .910 save percentage. 
 
Ajay is the son of Bill and Jennifer and has one sibling (Maeve). Both his mother and father played college sports at Ashland University. His mother, Jennifer, played volleyball and his father, Bill, played soccer. He does not currently know what he plans to study while at St. Thomas.
