Women’s Hockey Set for Home-and-Home series with #10 St. Cloud State

The Tommies play Friday at home, and Saturday in St. Cloud for a home-and-home series against the Huskies
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team is set to play No. 10-ranked St. Cloud State in a weekend series. Friday's game will take place at 6:00 p.m. at Saint Thomas Ice Arena. Saturday's contest is set for 1:00 p.m. at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Last Time Out
The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team earned their first victory against the Minnesota State Mavericks on Thursday, Nov. 9th. The Tommies found themselves trailing after the first period, but recorded four goals over the final 40 minutes to capture the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Face-off Classic victory.
In the win over the Mavericks, graduate student, Calla Frank made 21 saves and recorded a .955 SV% against her former team. Ella Boerger and Rylee Bartz both recorded three points in the game. Boerger and Bartz lead the Tommies' offense with 13 points in 13 games so far this season.
History against the Huskies
The Tommies have a 2-5-1 record against the Huskies.
In their first season of DI, the Tommies went 2-1-1 against the Huskies. Last season, St. Cloud State defeated the the Purple in all four match-ups.
Scouting the Huskies
The No. 10 -ranked St. Cloud State Women's Hockey program (9-4-0, 4-3-0 WCHA) is led by Brian Idalski, who is in his second season of coaching the Huskies. Coach Idalski was named the 2023 USCHO National Coach of the Year and WCHA Coach of the Year.
Fifth year forward, Klára Hymlárová leads St. Cloud's offense with 12 points (6G, 6A) in 13 games played. Last season, Hymlárová lead the Huskies in goals while and was ranked third in the nation in power play goals, scoring eight.
In net, Sanni Ahola and Jojo Chobak split time for the Huskies. Ahola has posted a 5-1-0 record, with a 0.84 GAA and four shutouts. Chobak has earned a 4-3-0 record with a 1.31 GAA and .944 SV%.
Sweep of WCHA Weekly Honors
Four Tommies received WCHA honors after a victory over Minnesota State last Thursday, Nov. 9th. Rylee Bartz (Forward of the Week), Nicole Vallario (Defender of the Week), Calla Frank (Goaltender of the Week) and Ella Boerger (Rookie of the Week) were given WCHA honors after strong performances, as announced by the league's office on Monday.
Rylee Bartz, the Fargo, N.D. native, was named WCHA Forward of the Week after posting three points in the 4-1 victory over the Mavericks. Bartz tallied an assist in the second period on linemate, Ella Boerger's game-winning goal. Bartz then scored two power play goals, both assisted by Boerger and Nicole Vallario.
Nicole Vallario, a junior from Lugano, Switzerland was awarded the WCHA Defender of the Week after assisting on both of Bartz's goals on Thursday night.
Calla Frank, a Hugo, Minn. native was named WCHA Goaltender of the week after earning a victory over her former team on Thursday evening. Frank made 21 saves on 22 shots, posting a .955 SV% on the night.
Ella Boerger, a forward from Andover, Minn., was awarded WCHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after totaling three points against Minnesota State. Boerger scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's game against the Mavericks. Boerger also assisted on both of Bartz's third period power play goals.
Offensive Growth
The Tommies have scored 34 goals throughout the first 13 games of the 2023-24 season, while the Purple totaled 53 through 36 games just last season.
The Purple have faced non-conference opponents Franklin Pierce and Lindenwood. In four games played, the Tommies have outshot non-conference opponents 171-54 and outscored opponents 23-9.
The Tommies have set a D-I era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 12 skaters have scored goals for the Tommies, led by freshman Ella Boerger who has found the back of the net six times. In 13 games played, freshmen Rylee Bartz and Ella Boerger have tied the single season high in points scored with 13 a piece. The previous record was set by Maddy Clough (2022-23 season) and Abby Promersberger (2021-22 season).
Boerger has recorded three three-points games and Bartz has posted five multi-point games this season.

The Tommies with be road warriors during the back half of the season, playing 10 of their final 14 games away from the comforts of Mendota Heights, Minnesota. St. Thomas will open 2024 with three consecutive road games against the Badgers and Huskies before returning home to home St. Cloud State on January 20. The Tommies with also host Minnesota-Duluth (February 9-10) and the Mavericks (February 24) in the final month of the regular season.
