Luke Manning's three-point season debut nets him CCHA weekly award

Men’s Hockey’s fifth-year senior Luke Manning score three points during the Tommies first win of the year against #7/8 St. Cloud State.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – It was an eventful weekend to start the 2023-24 season for St. Thomas Men's Hockey, now capped off with the first CCHA weekly honor of the year for fifth-year senior and captain Luke Manning.
Manning was named CCHA Forward of the Week, one of four weekly awards given out by the league office every week during the season.
The Stillwater, Minn. native played a pivotal role in the Tommies' 5-4 overtime victory over perennial powerhouse St. Cloud State on the road.
Manning assisted on Cameron Recchi's goal to tie the game 2-2, then scored on the power play to make it a 3-3 game, and assisted on Matthew Gleason's goal in the third to give the Tommies a 4-3 lead.
His three-point output on Friday was the first of his career. He had 10 career two-point showings in three previous years of Division I hockey. It was also the first time Manning tallied two assists in a game.
Manning represents the 11th CCHA weekly honor awarded to a Tommie and first since Luc Laylin won Forward of the Week on Feb. 6, 2023. Fellow captain Mack Byers is the only other Tommie to be named Forward of the Week.
