Men’s Soccer heads back on the road for Saturday, Tuesday matches

The Tommies set to face Denver and Green Bay on the road

St. Paul, Minn. --  St. Thomas Men's Soccer (2-6-2) heads back on the road, facing Denver (Oct. 21) and Green Bay (Oct. 24).
 
St. Thomas and Denver met earlier this season on Sep. 23rd. The Pioneers defeated the Tommies in St. Paul by a score of 2-0.
 
The Tommie and Green Bay match-up is the third time these teams have faced each other. In both previous contests, the Tommies and Phoenix ended their matchups in a draw.

Omaha Recap
It was a back-and-forth start to the game on October 14th in Omaha, Neb., with the first half ending scoreless for both teams. The Tommies attempted four shots in the first half, while the Mavericks put three on goal. Tommie goalkeeper, Moritz Krenc, saved all three shots in the first half, shutting down all opportunities for the Mavericks.
 
Second half action continued as both teams competed to break the scoreless tie. In the 68th minute, Omaha capitalized on their second shot on goal of the half, gaining the 1-0 lead. The Tommies continued to battle the rest of the second half trying to score the equalizing goal. Ultimately, Omaha earned a hard-fought Summit League victory on home field, 1-0

Oral Roberts Recap
Last Wednesday, the Tommies kicked the match off fast, with the ball moving up and down the field quickly. Oral Roberts attempted three shots in the first 12 minutes of play, however the Tommie defense stood strong, blocking two of the attempts. Tommie forward, Faris Colic, launched one towards the goal a shortly after, however missed high.

The Golden Eagles put a total of five shots towards goal during the first half, however none landed on net. The lone shot on goal of the first half came from Dennis Mensah, Jr. who put the Tommies in the lead in the final minute of the first half.

Second half action started as Oral Roberts made a push to put one in the Tommies' net. The Golden Eagles recorded their first shot on goal of the match in the 47th minute of play. Oral Roberts would continue their offensive pressure, putting two more shots on goal and scoring the game tying goal in the 74th minute.

Both teams battled for the go-ahead-goal, however the match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw. The Tommies defense continued to shut down opponents and led the Purple to a 1-1 draw against nationally ranked Oral Roberts.
 
Home field advantage
The Tommies are now unbeaten in their last three home contests and hold a 2-1-2 record on South Field this season. At home, the Tommies have allowed just five goals against so far this season, shutting down top-ranked opponents with rock solid defense.

The Mann, Krenc Tandem
Senior goalkeeper, Tucker Mann, has played five games in net for the Tommies, posting a 1-2-1 record during the 2023 season. Mann has played 381 minutes and posted a 1.89 GAA so far on the season.
 
His younger partner freshman goalkeeper, Moritz Krenc, has played eight games in net for the Tommies, posting a 1-5-2 record during the 2023 season. Krenc has played 698 minutes and posted a 2.19 GAA so far this season.

Combined the tandem has posted a 2.08 GAA so far this season and a clean sheet to help the Tommies.
 
Graduate Student Spotlight
Graduate students Isaac Eckroth and Wes Lorrens have been key players for the Tommies since they began their journey at St. Thomas.
 
Defender, Wes Lorrens, transferred to St. Thomas and has played 44 games, recorded three goals and one assist, and totaling 3155 minutes with the Tommies.
 
Defender, Isaac Eckroth, has played his five seasons with the Tommies, competing in 60 games, tallying one goal and five assists in 4650 minutes played. Isaac leads the Tommies with minutes played in the DI-era, followed by Wes.

Scouting the Pioneers
The Denver Men's Soccer team is led by head coach Jamie Franks in his ninth season. In eight seasons, head coach Jamie Franks of the 2016 National Coaching Staff of the Year has put together a record of 97-33-23. 
 
Junior midfield, Sam Bassett, leads the Pioneers with points so far this season. Bassett has scored seven goals and tallied five assists for 19 points. Goalkeeper, Isaac Nehme, has played 14 full games for the Pioneers, making 41 saves and posting a .759 SV%. 
 
Scouting the Phoenix
The Green Bay men's soccer program is led by head coach Jeremy Bonomo. Coach Bonomo has led the Phoenix since 2014, leading them to a Horizon League Championship in 2017.

Sophomore forward, Chris Album leads the Phoenix offensively this season. Posting five goals and two assists in eight games played. Goalkeeper, Tobias Jahn has started in 12 games for the Phoenix, making 33 saves and posting a 0.76 GAA.
