Oral Roberts gives St. Thomas Volleyball 3-0 loss

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Volleyball was handed a 3-0 loss (23-25, 15-25, 20-25) by Oral Roberts on Tuesday night in Tulsa, Okla.
The Tommies (2-13, 0-3 Summit) began the match with the first four points and later took a set-high 8-3 lead off a kill by freshman Tezra Rudzitis. Oral Roberts (5-9, 2-0 Summit) came back to tie the match six times before taking its first lead, 19-18. The Purple regained the lead soon after but fell as ORU scored five of the final six points of the set.
Junior Ellie Dammann gave the Tommies another lead to start the second set that was followed by the first and final lead for the Golden Eagles. St. Thomas again took the first lead of set three and led by as many as three points, 9-6. The Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run for a 13-9 lead and held off the Tommies for the straight set win.
Dammann, sophomore Lauren Galvin and freshman Emma Goerger each led the team with six kills apiece. Graduate student Carrie Rutledge paced the Tommies with 13 digs while freshman Allie Kopp totaled 12 assists.
Galvin is now 14 kills away from 500 in her career at St. Thomas. She and Goerger are both two blocks shy of 50 as well.
St. Thomas continues its three-match road trip Thursday at 7 p.m. against Denver and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Omaha.
