St. Thomas takes on Oral Roberts, Denver and Omaha in three-match week

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Volleyball takes aim on its first Summit League win with a three-match week on the road Sept. 27-Oct. 1.
St. Thomas begins the road trip Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla., before facing Denver Thursday at 7 p.m. in Denver, Colo., and Omaha Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.

Tommie Watch
St. Thomas was swept in both of its Summit League-opening matches of the 2022 season, falling to North Dakota State Sept. 22 and North Dakota Sept. 24 at Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
The Tommies fought back from down seven in set one against the Bison to trail by just two, 21-19. NDSU closed the first set on a 4-1 run and set two on a 5-2 run for a 2-0 lead. St. Thomas opened the third set on a 7-3 run and led late, 18-16, before a 9-3 run by NDSU to take the match.
St. Thomas battled back from early set deficits Saturday against North Dakota, trailing 20-19 late in set one and 21-19 late in set two. The Fighting Hawks ended set one on a 5-1 run and set two on a 4-0 run to take a 2-0 lead. The Tommies took a 3-1 lead early that held at 7-6 before the Fighting Hawks ended the match on a 16-5 run.
Sophomore Lauren Galvin led the Tommies with 24 kills and 17 digs, including her third double-double of the season Thursday with 12 kills and 10 digs against North Dakota State. She's tallied double-digit kills in 10 of 14 matches this season.
Freshman Tezra Rudzitis led the team with a .281 hitting percentage, coming off 15 kills, and joined junior Ellie Dammann with a team-high five blocks. Fellow freshman Keya Luta Win Hunt paced the team with 27 assists and tied a career-high 16 assists Saturday versus North Dakota.
The Tommies led the Summit League with 1.69 opponent blocks per set, are tied for third with 1.46 service aces per set and are eighth with 1.76 blocks per set. Freshman Allie Kopp ranks tied for fifth in the league with 0.33 service aces per set while Galvin ranks 10th with 3.10 kills per set. Freshman Emma Goerger ranks 11th with 0.94 blocks per set.

Oral Roberts is 4-9 overall after opening the Summit League schedule with a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22) over Kansas City on Sept. 24. The Golden Eagles recorded a season-high 14 service aces and hit .184 against the Roos.
The Golden Eagles are hitting .148 with 11.47 kills and 10.49 assists per set. Oral Roberts leads the Summit League and ranks 13th in the country with 37.25 team attacks per set and is 24th in the nation with 16.13 digs per set. Senior Sakira LaCour leads the team and ranks 17th in the NCAA with 1.42 blocks per set.

Denver enters the week 7-6 overall after a league-opening split against South Dakota State and South Dakota on the road. The Pioneers opened Summit League play with a 3-1 win (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20) over the Jackrabbits before a 3-1 loss (25-20, 18-25, 16-25, 20-25) to the Coyotes.
The Pioneers are hitting .169 with 11.84 kills per set and 10.94 assists per set. Denver ranks third in the country with 3.05 blocks per set and 37th with an opposing hitting percentage of .167. Senior Brianna Green leads the team and ranks seventh in the nation with 1.51 blocks per set. Fellow senior Cadi Boyer also ranks among the top 22 nationally with 1.40 blocks per set.
Scouting Omaha
Omaha begins the week with a 5-7 overall record after falling in five sets to both South Dakota and South Dakota State on the road. The Mavericks won the second and third set against the Coyotes before falling in extra points during the final two sets (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-27, 14-16). Omaha nabbed the first and fourth sets against South Dakota State before a fifth-set loss (25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 12-15).
The Mavericks are hitting .215 with 13.14 kills and 12.30 assists per set. Omaha ranks 52nd in the country with 2.46 blocks per set. Junior McKenna Ruch is third in the nation with 1.60 blocks per set and senior Sami Clarkson is 11th with 10.88 assists per set.
