Volleyball closes out non-conference schedule Sept. 16-17 at Bradley Classic

St. Paul, Minn. – The final non-conference matches of the season await St. Thomas Volleyball Sept. 16-17 at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill.
The Purple begin their fourth season-opening tournament with a doubleheader Friday, taking on Western Michigan at 10 a.m. and IUPUI at 2 p.m., followed by the weekend finale Saturday at 10 a.m. against the host Bradley. St. Thomas will be facing all three opponents for the first time in program history.

Tommie Watch
St. Thomas fell in all of its matches Sept. 9-10 at the Rambler Challenge in Chicago. The Tommies were swept in all three matches against Loyola Chicago, Rutgers and Kansas State.
The Tommies' match against the Scarlet Knights was decided by three or fewer points in each set, including two sets that went to extra points. A kill from sophomore Lauren Galvin and assist by freshman Allie Kopp gave St. Thomas the first lead of the match, which was overcome after the next two points.
Junior Ellie Dammann was named to the Rambler Challenge All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with 13 kills, four blocks and a .423 hitting percentage. She led the Tommies with seven kills and one block against Loyola Chicago and with two blocks against Kansas State.
Galvin paced St. Thomas through the weekend with 28 kills and added 13 digs, one block and one assist. Kopp led the Tommies with 31 assists while sophomore Ella Wheatcraft led with 25 digs.
The Tommies are third in the Summit League with 1.63 service aces per set and are seventh with 1.81 blocks per set. Freshman Emma Goerger ranks second in the league with 0.45 service aces per set and is tied for eighth with 1.00 block per set.
Scouting Western Michigan
Western Michigan comes into Friday's match with a 5-4 overall record and went 1-2 Sept. 9-10 at the UNI Tournament. WMU opened the weekend with a 3-1 loss against Northern Iowa and split on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Grand Canyon and a 3-1 loss to Southeast Missouri State.
The Broncos are hitting .219 with 13.94 kills and 12.88 assists per set. Western Michigan ranks 13th in the nation with 37.56 attacks per set and 17th with 12.88 assists per set. Junior Logan Case ranks third nationally with 11.50 assists per set.
Scouting IUPUI
IUPUI enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record and went 2-1 Sept. 9-10 at the Bellarmine Tournament. The Jags earned a doubleheader split Friday with a 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb and a 3-0 loss to Seattle. IUPUI closed out the tournament with a 3-1 win against the host Bellarmine.
The Jags are hitting .153 with 11.85 kills and 10.76 assists per set. IUPUI ranks 51st in the country in opponent hitting percentage at .163. Sophomore Addie Evans ranks 15th in the nation with 5.21 digs per set.
Scouting Bradley
Bradley holds a 3-6 overall record heading into Friday and went 2-1 Sept. 9-10 at the Bobcat Invitational. The Braves began the weekend with a 3-0 win over Loyola (Md.) and a 3-0 loss to Ohio before closing with a 3-2 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
The Braves are hitting .163 with 10.71 kills and 10.00 assists per set. Freshman Kendall Minta ranks 57th in the country with 1.28 blocks per set.
