HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tommies spent the first set responding to an early Milwaukee surge, falling behind 8-2 before working back behind kills from Schmidt and Kealy. Brundage's serving run provided the clearest push, with three straight aces moving the Tommies from 14-10 to 14-13. The Tommies stayed within reach late, but Milwaukee closed the set 25-22.

In the second set, the Tommies turned a 7-5 deficit into an 11-7 lead with six straight points, a run capped by three consecutive Schmidt service aces. The Tommies kept adding through Kealy-assisted kills from Ellie Gustafson, Kocon, Schmidt and Addie Schmotzer, then closed the set on Gustafson's kill for a 25-18 finish.

The Tommies climbed back from an 18-12 deficit to get within 21-19 in the third set, using kills from Schmotzer, Reilly Kurth, Kealy and Kocon during that push. Kocon kept the Tommies close late with four kills from Kealy assists between 21-18 and 23-21. Milwaukee closed out the set 25-21.

In the fourth set, the Tommies kept answering, with Gustafson recording kills that tied the score at 18-18, 19-19 and 20-20. Milwaukee responded with two straight points for a 22-20 edge, and although Schmidt and Kocon added late kills, Milwaukee finished the set 25-22.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Thanh Pham on the Tommie Volleyball Invitational Tournament finale:
"Milwaukee was a really good match for us even though the results weren't in our favor. I thought we played hard for the full two hours. They just played a little bit better and if you look at the box score, I mean, we scored the same number of points. In terms of effort and execution, there are things we need to clean up, but in terms of faith and getting ready for the conference season, I think this non-conference schedule is proving exactly what we thought. We are finding out a lot about ourselves. We're just going to have to find a way to win come conference time. I'm very positive and excited about the group we have and couldn't be more thankful for their effort."
