St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas softball will face Green Bay for a rescheduled home doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The last time the two teams met, they split a doubleheader, including a 13-3 thrashing by the Tommies over the Phoenix.
Chasing No. 700
Coach Trotter is just 12 wins away from 700 career victories. 676 of Trotter's wins came with Missouri Western at the Division II level. Trotter earned her first Division I win in a 6-5 victory against Ball State on Feb. 11.
Last Time Out
The Tommies were swept on the road by South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. St. Thomas was limited to just one run in the loss after the offense against Jackrabbit pitchers.
Top 25 Freshman
Shortstop Brooke Ellestad has been named to the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA DI Freshman of the Year Top 25. Ellestad is the lone Summit League representative on the list. It is the first time in program history that a St. Thomas softball player has made the list, as the team is in its first season at the Division I level. The Freshman of the Year will be announced on June 1 at the College World Series.
Going Up Against Green Bay
The Tommies are facing the Phoenix for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met, they split a doubleheader in Green Bay, Wis. St. Thomas nearly picked up a game one win, and responded to the loss with a 13-3 six-inning victory over Green Bay. In the 13-3 win, Mackenzie Rudy was 3-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. Teammate Katie Goelz was also 3-4 at the plate, added two steals, and scored two runs.
Leaders on the Mound
Junior righty Isabelle True is the team's leader in ERA (4.03) after transferring to the team prior to the year. Christina Crawford, a freshman, leads the Tommies in wins (6), innings pitched (112.2), and strikeouts (86). Both Crawford and True have tallied the only saves for the team this season.
Freshman 1-2 Punch
The top two in batting average on the team (Brooke Ellestad and Kaitlyn Raymond) are both in their first collegiate season. Ellestad (.427) and Raymond (.331) have combined for 96 of the team's 280 hits this season. Ellestad ranks in the top 10 in the Summit League in batting average, slugging percentage (.621), OBP (.455), OPS (1.076), and base hits. Raymond has posted a top-10 Summit League OBP (.412) and has walked at the eighth-best clip in the conference (18).
