Track and field relay, thrower place at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa - Tommie Men's Track and Field's shuttle-hurdle relay team placed fourth out of 13 teams here Saturday at the Drake Relays.
The quartet of Jack Rosner, Carter Maack, Erik Anderson and Sam Duffing clocked 1:00.34, just .03 of a second behind North Dakota State in its heat.
Senior Parker Feuerborn took eighth of 28 entrants in the hammer throw in 205-1, just two feet off his career best.
St. Thomas' men's distance medley relay team placed 17th in 10:08.73 with Maxwell Gifford, Calvin Bream, John Morrison and Morey Smith.
Three Tommie relay teams competed Friday: the men's 4x200 clocked 10th out of 27 in 1:27.70 with Gary Afram, Nate Carlin, Rosner and Eric Douville; the men's 4x100 clocked 41.74 for 14th with Carlin, Afram, Alec Martzahl and Douville; and the women's 4x100 ran 48.60 for 17th place with Taynian Walgrave, Hannah Cornelius, Hailey Hindt, and Molly Reighard.
Also on Friday, Megan Gehrke placed 26th in the shot put in 43-7 3-4.
On Thursday, junior Maxwell Gifford clocked a season-best 1:53.00 to place 12th of 22 runners in the 800 meters.
St. Thomas plays host to the Tommie Twilight meet next Wednesday afternoon and evening at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
St. John's meet
Freshman Alyssa Whaley hit a collegiate best of 120-7 to win the javelin at Friday's St. John's meet in Collegeville. Freshman teammate Hailey Shimon won the discus in a collegiate best 137-5. Both are top-15 Summit League marks on the season.
Two other St. Thomas freshman had top-25 Summit performances with season bests: Alicia Belany won the 800 in 2:18.77; and Emma Potratz took third in the shot put at 38-9 and won the hammer in 139-9.
Maggie Olejnik won the long jump (17-1 1-4) and triple jump (36-2 1-4).
Carly Scheuerman (2:19.47), Amaya Lyrek (2:21.04) and Lauren Ellefson (2:21.77) placed 2-3-4 behind Belany in the 800. Lyrek and Ellefson hit season-best times. Mara McNaughton took second in the 400 hurdles in a season-best 1:10:10.
On the men's side, Mason Thedens took second in the 400 dash (51.02); Cam Schulz took second in the long jump (21-0) and fifth in the pole vault (13-8 1-4); and in the javelin, Josh Dolezal (164-1), Nate Raddatz (163-2) and Matt Escher (156-8) placed 3-4-6.
