Minneapolis, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's Tennis Team opened their home schedule with a conference loss to Oral Roberts, 6-1, at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Saturday.
"I think it was a better performance today, I think everyone is just progressing," said Head Coach Lois Arterberry. "We're in conference play right now. I saw some good performance from Jannah, she had a good three-set match today. Brooke, actually, just got into the lineup for singles, she had a good performance as well, really competed out there on the court. Olivia fought her way back in the second set, but wasn't able to get it. A lot of positive things throughout the entire team. We just look forward to what we can do tomorrow against Western Illinois."
In singles action, sophomore Jannah El Nemr scored the lone point for the Tommies in the No. 2 spot in a three-set thriller, claiming the first set 6-1, fell in the second set, 6-0, and clinching the point with a 6-2 showing in the third set.
In the No. 1 spot, after falling 6-1 in the first set, senior Olivia Paradise forced extra points in the second set, falling by a score of 7-5 in second set after forcing extra points bringing the set to an even 5-5.
In her singles debut, senior Brooke Hapuku fell in the first set, 6-1, but played a competitive second set, falling 6-4.
In doubles action, the duo of freshman Abigail Bremel and senior Brooke Hapku fell by a score of 6-2, in the No. 3 doubles spot, El Nemr and sophomore Nicole Snezko fell 6-1, giving Oral Roberts the doubles point.
The Tommies return to action tomorrow as they host Western Illinois at Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington. The match is slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
