Minneapolis, Minn. -- Tommie Men's Track and Field recorded several strong top-three placings Saturday at the Gopher Classic indoor meet on the University of Minnesota campus. The non-team scored meet included some St. Thomas and Minnesota unattached athletes as well as some Division III teams.
Junior Morey Smith won the mile in a career-best 4:11.17 clocking.
In the 60 hurdles, two Toms just missed the school record of 8.26 set last month by teammate Jack Rosner -- Erik Anderson took first in 8.28, and Carter Maack placed third in 8.29.
Freshman Gary Afram clocked a career-best 6.83 in a second-place finish in the 60 dash. Sophomore Nate Carlin clocked a season-best 6.98 in the prelims.
Freshman Will Hanson won the long jump in a season-best 22-5.
Freshman Grady Clem won the high jump in a season-best 6-6.
Parker Feuerborn had a best of 58-8 in the weight throw for fifth place in a deep field.
John Morrison (1:24.70) and Regan Sevenich (1:24.73) placed 1-3 in the 600.
St. Thomas will have athletes competing next Friday in the South Dakota State Invite.
