-- St. Thomas Track and Field had a partial squad of men and women competing this weekend at the South Dakota State meet.

Several Tommie men had season or career-best performances Saturday in the final day, including:
  • Senior Eric Douville won the 200 meters in a field of 98 runners in a season-best time of 21.68.
  • Sophomore John Morrison took sixth in the 800 meters in a field of 51 runners in a career-best 1:54.57.
  • Senior Calvin Bream took eighth in the 400 meters in a field of 54 runners in a career-best 49.74.
  • Freshman Jack Rosner tied his school record in the 60 hurdles in the prelims as he clocked 8.26.
Elsewhere on Saturday, senior Parker Feuerborn took second in the weight throw in 62-4.

Freshman multi-event competitor Sam May had a season-best 6-2 3-4 in the high jump.
Freshman Will Hanson and senior Nate Raddatz shared sixth in the long jump in 21-6 3-4.
For the women, freshman Hannah Cornelius lowered her collegiate best in the 400 dash to 57.51 with a fourth-place finish. Megan Gehrke took fifth in the shot put in a season-best 45-8 1-2. Freshman Maggie Olejnik posted a season-best 36-0 mark in the triple jump as she placed fifth out of 35.

Taynian Walgrave placed seventh in the 60 hurdles in 8.92. Four Tommie pole vaulters -- Rachel Brockish, freshman Brianna Schoenfelder, freshman Katie Nollette and Olvia Lemke -- cleared 10-10 and shared sixth place.

St. Thomas will compete next Friday Feb. 18 at the University of Minnesota.


Friday's Story

St. Thomas Track and Field had four distance runners record personal-best times with top-seven finishes Friday evening in day one of the SDSU Indoor Classic.

Junior Morey Smith (8:20.01), senior Biel Wiel (8:24.51) and sophomore Charlie Caven (8:28.28) placed 2-4-7 in a field of 60 runners in the men's 3,000 meters. All three shaved several seconds off their career-best times.

Junior Colton Halla placed 10th, also in a career-best clocking of 8:34.84.

In the women's 5,000 meters, senior Olivia Moll placed sixth in a field of 56 runners in a personal-best time of 17:37.92. Christina Bolcer clocked 18:19.41.

The bulk of the St. Thomas athletes will compete during Saturday's session.
