2/17/2022 9:46:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Mendota Heights, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (5-24-1, 3-22-1 WCHA) lost, 7-1, to No. 1 Minnesota (25-7-1, 20-6-1 WCHA) on Thursday.
The opening period was dominated by the Minnesota offense, as the Gophers amassed 25 shots leading to three goals scored. St. Thomas totaled seven first period shots as the team was stymied by the opposing defense.
St. Thomas got on the board against Minnesota in the second period as freshman Maddy Clough scored her second goal of the season, with help from sophomore forward Brieja Parent and freshman forward Abby Promersberger. The assists gave Promersberger a team-high tying eight for the season (and team-best 13 points) and Parent her second.
In the third period, the Tommies were held without a shot on goal, while facing 20 from the Gophers. In the contest, both teams were each assessed one minor penalty. Neither team scored on the power-play opportunity. St. Thomas totaled 26 blocks as a unit, helped by senior defender Megan Cornell, who led the squad with eight.
Alexa Dobchuk, a senior goaltender, got the start and made 39 saves in 48 minutes against the Gophers. Senior goalie Eryn Cooley made an appearance and in just under 12 minutes tallied 13 saves, giving the Purple 52 for the entirety of the game.
