Women’s Basketball can’t overcome late run by Bison in loss at NDSU

Fargo, N.D. – The St. Thomas Women's Basketball Team (6-17, 3-10) lost a tightly-contested game at North Dakota State (10-15, 6-9) in Fargo on Saturday.
The Bison earned the 69-60 win in a game that featured nine ties and five lead changes. The Tommies tied the game at 56-56 with just over five minutes to play, before the Bison went on a late run to earn their 10th win of the season.
The Tommies scored first in the game, and NDSU's only lead in the first quarter was 3-2, with 6:08 remaining in the period. Following a Bison free throw, the Purple embarked on an 12-5 run to open a 15-8 lead with 2:34 to play in the frame. NDSU closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 15-15 after one.
In a blow-for-blow second quarter, the two teams exchanges baskets and leads. The second saw a tie at five different scores with the Bison taking a 34-33 lead into halftime. Freshman G Jade hill scored 10 points in the second quarter and went 4-of-5 from the field.
St. Thomas connected on 50 percent (13-of-26) of its shots from the field in the first half, including a 25 percent (3-of-12) showing from behind the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 effort from the charity stipe.
Individually, seven different Tommies made their way into the scoring column in the first half, with Hill contributing a team-best 12 first-half points.
Coming out of the locker room, the Bison were able to outscore the Tommies 19-13 in the third quarter to open the NDSU lead to 53-46 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Purple's shooting efforts cooled off in the third quarter, only connecting on 31 percent of their shots from the field and 17 percent from behind the arc in the quarter.
With 5:11 to play in the game, the score was once again tied, this time at 56-56. NDSU as able to outscore St. Thomas 13-4 over the final five minutes of the game to claim the 69-60 win.
St. Thomas connected on 41 percent (24-of-59) of its shots from the field and 21 percent (5-of-24) of its shots from behind the arc in the loss.
Hill led the team with 19 points as a total of seven Tommies made their way into the scoring column. Freshman C Jo Langbehn led the team with seven rebounds in the game.
The Tommies return to action on Monday as they complete a three-game Summit League road trip at Kansas City. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
