Tommie Men’s Swim & Dive totals 12 event wins during 178-116 win over Augustana

St. Paul, Minn. -- A sweep on the diving boards by freshman Ben Linde and three individual event wins by sophomore Joe Rudd guided Tommie Men's Swimming & Diving to a 178-116 win over Augustana Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Tommies (1-1) totaled 12 wins on the day with 24 top-three finishes.
St. Thomas took the top two finishes on the 3m dive, including Linde with a first-place score of 202.05 and freshman Julius Krumenacher with a score of 200.80. Linde added his second win on the 1m board with a score of 262.00.
Rudd's second 100 breaststroke win of the season came behind a time of 57.86 while senior Will Goldman followed in second in 59.05. Rudd's final two individual event wins came in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.11 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:07.11. Goldman took third in both races with times of 2:16.82 in the 200 backstroke and 2:16.82 in the 200 breaststroke.
Rudd was also a part of the 400 medley relay that finished first with a time of 3:31.69. The St. Thomas 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Alex Foti, freshman Nate Anderson, junior AJ Carollo, and freshman Nick Salido earned a win with a time of 1:26.00.
Salido and junior Blake Baertlein finished first and second in the 50 freestyle, respectively, with times of 21.65 and 21.72.
Anderson won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.02 as Salido took second with a time of 48.21.
Foti earned a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.25.
Junior Luke Ridler won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.87 while senior Andrew Akermann won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.74.
Freshman Philip Jensen took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.81 followed by freshman Hiro McKee with a time of 52.87.
St. Thomas returns to the pool Friday, Oct. 28 against Minnesota at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
