St. Paul, Minn. -- Sophomore Lissa Mizutani scored in the 63rd minute Friday night as St. Thomas Women's Soccer fell in a Summit League clash against South Dakota State at South Field.
The Tommies (6-4-3, 2-2-1 Summit) were put on defense through the first half of the game as the Jackrabbits (8-0-5 2-0-2 Summit) took 13 shots and seven on-goal. The Purple accounted for just two first half shots-on-goal.
SDSU's first two goals came in the minutes just before and after halftime, as Lauren Eckerle scored in the 44th minute and Maya Hansen added another in the 46th.
Mizutani cut the Tommies' deficit in half as a free kick hit the top of the crossbar and bounced in for her first career goal. St. Thomas took over the shot-on-goal margin in the second half, as the Tommies totaled four to the Jackrabbits' three.
Sophomore Annie Bantner played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Tommies, ending the day with seven saves and 20 shots faced.

Coming into today, the Tommies had outscored their first 12 opponents 17-9. Through the first 12 games last season, St. Thomas was outscored 20-9.
Over a recent five-game, 10-day span Mariah Nguyen contributed three goals and two assists to help the Toms go 3-1-1. Nguyen's 12 season points (four goals, four assists) tied her for third most among all Summit League players coming into this weekend.
Quoting the Coach
"They're one of the top teams in the league so for us to show up and compete, and compete hard, and create opportunities was really good for us," said St. Thomas Head Coach Sheila McGill. "We had a few that we could have, should have put away and didn't but at the same time we're in the right mindset and we're playing the right style that we're creating opportunities.
"This is where we're building, and this is where our growth is. Last year was a very different game where we were just holding on for dear life. That's where the growth really is and we're moving forward and doing the right things to make that happen."
