Women's Soccer can't overcome slow start in road loss

Grand Forks, N.D.-- Tommie Women's Soccer took awhile to find its groove on Sunday and its eventual second-half push proved too little, too late in a 1-0 Summit League defeat at host North Dakota. The loss ended the Toms' five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2).
Hannah Olson's first-half goal ein the 28th minute provided the only score on the afternoon. Olson scored the games' only goals in a pair of 1-0 Summit wins this weekend by the Fighting Hawks (6-5-3 overall, 2-1-1 Summit).
Annie Bantner had five saves for the Purple (6-3-3-, 2-1-1).
Quoting the Coach
"We started with low energy in the first half and struggled to handle the wet, rainy conditions and the long grass," said St. Thomas coach Sheila McGill. "We came out as a different team second half, dominated play, but didn't finish the great chances we created.
"We walked away frustrated, but we'll take our determination into the next game."
Next Up
St. Thomas plays its final two home games of 2022 next Friday and Sunday Oct. 7-9 vs. South Dakota State and South Dakota.

In the second half, the Tommies outshot North Dakota 12-1 and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
St. Thomas has five games left in its season, all conference regular-season tests. It is ineligible for the conference playoffs as a team still in transition to full D-I status.
