Pair of forwards score for Women's Hockey against No. 5 Minnesota
1/9/2022 4:48:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Mendota Heights, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (4-15-1, 2-13-1 WCHA) produced two goals against powerhouse No. 5 Minnesota (16-5-1, 11-4-1 WCHA) on Sunday.
The pairing of forwards Luci Bianchi and Lauren Stenslie both tallied goals against the Gophers, marking the first time that St. Thomas skaters have scored in a contest against Minnesota in the program's NCAA Division I history.
After trailing by two goals entering the second period, the Tommies responded with a shorthanded goal from the junior Bianchi on a rebound while falling over. It was the fourth goal of the season for Bianchi, who is tied for the team lead with four scores and was her first goal scored since Nov. 6 against Ohio State. Two of Bianchi's four goals this season were scored against the Buckeyes.
An extended Gopher scoring run was halted by Stenslie after she found the net with 11:51 remaining in the third period, her third on the campaign. The freshman was assisted on her score by Abby Promersberger. Promersberger, a freshman forward, is tied for the lead in goals and leads the squad in assists with five.
In the match, senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk played just over 51 minutes and notched 24 saves. Eryn Cooley, also a senior goalie, played a little over eight minutes in relief of Dobchuk against Minnesota.
