Freshman sharp in high jump in indoor season opener for Women's T&F

Minneapolis, Minn. -- Freshman Caroline Anderson cleared 5-5 to take third place in the high jump and to lead Tommie Women's Track and Field performances at the season-opening University of Minnesota Open. The non-team scored co-ed meet was St. Thomas' Division I debut and also its 2022 indoor season opener.
Anderson had a prep best in that event of 5-7 recorded last spring while competing at Henry Sibley High.
In the pole vault, returners Olivia Lemke and Rachel Brockish placed 4-5 as both cleared 10-6 3-4. Megan Gehrke placed third in the shot put (41-10).
Freshman Maggie Olejnik took first in the triple jump (35-3 1-4) and second in the long jump (16-2 1-4). In the 600 dash, Grace McGuire (1:46.20) and Ashlyn Arett (1:49.7) placed 1-2.
Soph Taynian Walgrave placed fourth in the 60 hurdles with a prelim-best time of 8.9. Hannah Cornelius placed fourth in the 200 dash (26.74).
St. Thomas is home Friday Jan. 14 for its next indoor competition.
