Hurdlers, jumpers sharp for Men's Track & Field at U of M

Minneapolis, Minn. -- Freshman jumper Isaiah Hopf had a strong day and three Tommie multi-event athletes finished with top-100 national scores to lead St. Thomas Men's Track and Field at the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. The two-day competition concluded Saturday.

The non-team scored meet included scholarship programs and athletes and unattached athletes from the Minnesota Gophers, North Dakota State, St. Thomas, Omaha, Minnesota-Duluth and Iowa Central Community College. St. Thomas had 19 top-five individual finishes.

Nate Raddatz (4601 points), freshman Jack Rosner (4596) and Cam Schulz (4405) placed 4-5-6 out of 10 in the heptathlon. Those scores rank 75th, 77th and 99th in Division I, and all three were career bests.

Hopf won the long jump (22-8) and took second in the triple jump (47-4 1-4) -- both season bests. Freshman Gary Afram (21-8 1-4) also had a season best with a second in the long jump. Freshman Connor Johnsrud placed third in the triple jump (43-4 3-4).

In the 60 hurdles, the Toms finished 2-3-5 with Erik Anderson (8.34), Carter Maack (8.36) and Sam Duffing (8.60). In the 60 dash, Afram (6.91) and Eric Douville (6.97) placed 4-5.

Senior Parker Feuerborn placed fifth in a deep field in the weight throw with a best of 62-9 1-2. Freshman Grady Clem took third in the high jump in a season best 6-4 1-4.

Harris Anderson placed third in the 3,000 (8:57.35). Morey Smith placed fourth in the mile (4:16.42). John Morrison placed fourth in the 800 (1:58.00),

Calvin Bream placed fourth in the 200 (22.58) and fifth in the 400 (50.85). Will Hanson placed fifth oin the long jump (21-4).

St. Thomas returns to competition next Saturday Feb. 5 at the Gopher Classic at the U of M.
