Parent scores twice for Women's Hockey in 4-3 loss at Bemidji State
1/28/2022 8:13:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Bemidji, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (4-18-1, 2-16-1 WCHA) could not contain a Bemidji State (9-13-3, 6-13-2 WCHA) comeback attempt in a 4-3 loss on Friday.
The Tommies scored early with a pair of first period goals, the first one coming by sophomore forward Brieja Parent, the first of her collegiate career. The second goal was scored by junior forward Allie Monrean, the fourth of the season for her. Maija Almich and Lauren Stenslie assisted on Parent's goal and Abby Promersberger and Maddy Clough dished the puck to Monrean on her score. St. Thomas did not allow a Bemidji State goal in the opening period.
A relatively uneventful second period was highlighted by a score from the opposing team, to cut the St. Thomas lead in half. After outshooting the Beavers, 12-4, in the first period, the Tommies were outshot 12-3 in the second period. St. Thomas continued to win on the faceoff front, owning a 10-9 advantage in the second.
It did not take long for the Beavers to tie it up, after finding the net just two minutes into the third period. The opposition would score again a few minutes later to take a 3-2 lead, coming all the way back from 2-0. After what seemed like the final goal scored of the game by BSU, 4-2, Parent found the net again for her second goal of the game. Parent's second goal was assisted by Promersberger and Monrean.
Senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk played 57 minutes in the net for the Tommies, making 26 saves, while allowing four goals scored. Dobchuk did not face a power-play in the loss.
