Volleyball drops season opener to Ball State, 3-0

Tommie Volleyball opened its NCAA Division I era on Friday afternoon in Green Bay, Wis., with a season-opening 3-0 loss to Ball State. The Cardinals (2-0) won 25-22, 25-10, 25-13 in the UW-Green Bay tourney.
St. Thomas (0-1) had a solid .250 attack percentage in the first set but closed the match hitting only .165 for the day. The Toms pulled within 23-22 in the first set before Ball State collected the last two points and claimed the set.
The Purple were led by Lauren Galvin with nine kills and six digs. Fran Egan had seven kills; freshman Payton Willman added 10 digs; and freshman Eva Fitzgerald closed with 11 assists.
Coach Thanh Pham's Tommies finish their season-opening trip as they play the tourney host Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
