Tennis teams battle, lose on road to D-I foes

St. Thomas played two women's matches and one men's contest Saturday in Omaha, Neb., against a pair of Division I opponents. The Tommie women lost 6-1 to Omaha of the Summit League, and later fell 7-0 to Creighton of the Big East Conference.
The Tommie men lost 7-0 to Creighton.
On the men's side, the Purple (1-2) had some good battles in doubles and singles. Frank Stich and Tristan Fjelstad lost 6-4 at first doubles, and Anshul Bharath lost a 6-4, 6-4 score at sixth singles.
The Tommie women (0-3) recorded a victory at sixth singles by freshman Clare Palen in the loss to Omaha. Jannah El Nemr and Monterey Knewtson won the first set of their third singles matches at Nos. 3-4 but both eventually lost in three sets. Nicole Snezhko and Olivia Paradise lost 6-4 at first doubles, and Snezhko lost 7-5, 6-1 at first singles..
In the Creighton match, Paradise lost 6-2, 7-5 at second singles, and Palen lost 6-4, 6-3 at third singles. Paradise and Brooke Hapuku lost 6-3 at third doubles.
St. Thomas will compete Sunday against St. Scholastica in 2 p.m. matches set for the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness facility..
