St. Thomas Men's Track and Field recorded three top field-event marks near the top of the early Division III season performance lists to highlight Friday night's home dual competition with Augsburg at Anderson Fieldhouse.
It was the first of three 2020-21 indoor meets for St. Thomas, and the squad's first competition in 11 months due to a long shutdown of sports competition due to the Covid outbreak.
Coach Steve Mathre's Tommies won 11 of 13 events in the non-team scored meet, with the other two firsts captured by St. Thomas alumni athletes competing unattached.
Sophomore Joe Hueg threw a career-best 58-1 1-4 in the weight throw, a toss that moves him into second place on the Division III season list heading into this weekend.
Senior Jake Kelly won the high jump in 6-6 3-4. That ties the D-III season best heading into this weekend.
Junior Kaleb Keener won the long jump in a career-best 22-9 3-4. That mark ranks second best in D-III heading into this weekend.
Sophomore Zach Haire, expected to be a standout in cross country, ran his first Tommie race in 11 months and won the 3,000 in 8:45.75, a time that starts this weekend ranked 10th in D-III.
Junior Eric Douville won the 60 dash (7.08) and the 200 meters (23.73). His 60 time ranks in the top 12 nationally to start the weekend.
Other individual winners for the Toms were Maxwell Gifford in the 800 (1:58.69); John Morrison in the mile (4:29.73); Evan Teynor in the 60 hurdles (8.88); and Cameron Schultz in the pole vault (13-6 1-4).
The Tommies will compete at home Feb. 26 against Gustavus.
