Relay success highlights opening day for Swimming & Diving at SCSU Rochester Invitational

Rochester, Minn. – The St. Thomas men's and women's swimming & diving programs showed out on the opening day of the SCSU Rochester Invitational in Rochester, Minn. on Friday.

The Tommies finished with six top-three times in separate events, three of which were top-three times in their respective races. The women's team posted all the top-three times and the men's team had three top-five finishes.

On the men's side, freshman Alex Foti tallied the fifth-fastest time in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a 4:39.72 posting. Fellow newcomer Joe Rudd raced to a top-five time of 1:54.90 in the 200 Yard IM. The relay squad for the men worked to the fifth-best time in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay (7:10.50) in the final swimming event of Friday's slate.

For the women's squad, a 1:47.16 showing in the fifth heat of the 200 Yard Medley Relay was the fifth-best time recorded. Freshman Elizabeth Bonneville followed up with the second-fastest time in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:05.00). Senior Anna Astrup tallied a time of 57.11, good for third, in the 100 Yard Butterfly. The final top-three output for the women's team came in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay (7:45.23). Peyton Eckman tallied fourth for St. Thomas in the 1 Meter Dive with a finals output of 416.50.

QUICK NOTES

The men's squad had two individual top-five placements and the women's team had two top-three individual placers.
The women had two top-three relay finishes and the men tallied one top-five relay finish.
Three of the four top-five individual placements for both the men and women were freshmen.
