10/29/2021 4:36:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Freshmen Maddy Clough and Nicole Vallario recorded their first collegiate goals as St. Thomas Women's Hockey posted a 3-1 comeback win over RIT in non-conference play Friday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
Freshman Saskia Maurer stopped 13 of 14 shots as St. Thomas outshot the Tigers 37-14.
It was the Tommies' first Division I road win and their second comeback victory of 2021-22.
The Tigers scored the first goal of the contest and the lone goal in the first period via a power-play at 15:17 into the opening frame.
Clough scored her first collegiate goal, and her third point of the season, midway through the second period. The goal was assisted by junior Allie Monrean and graduate student Megan Cornell. Monrean and Cornell now each have two points on the season.
Vallario broke the 1-1 tie with just over 8:00 remaining in regulation time with goal, assisted by senior Anna Erickson and fellow freshman Abby Promersberger.
The Clough and Vallario goals extended a team streak of goals to nine in a row from nine different Tommies, all over the last seven games. Vallario ended the string when she connected to score an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
St. Thomas returns to action in game two of the weekend series at RIT tomorrow at noon Minnesota time.
