Women's Hockey gets first series sweep of D-I era

Allie Monrean's third-period goal broke a 1-1 tie and Alexa Dobchuk added 25 saves as St. Thomas Women's Hockey completed a two-game road sweep of Rochester Institute of Technology with Saturday's 2-1 victory in Rochester, N.Y.
The Tommies (4-5-1) allowed just two goals by their starting goalies Dobchuk and Saskia Maurer in the weekend series. Not counting a Friday empty-net score, four different players recorded the Purple's four other goals.
Freshman Abby Promersberger scored a power-play goal in the first period for a 1-0 lead, assisted by Maija Almich and Megan Cornell. After the Tigers tied the score in the second period, Monrean connected off an assist from Lauren Stenslie for what proved to be the game winner..
St. Thomas returns home next Friday and Saturday to face No. 2-ranked Ohio State in WCHA play.
