St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Thomas volleyball team continued Summit League action on Saturday as they fell to Omaha, 3-0, by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-17.
With the win, Omaha improves to 13-8 overall and a league-leading 10-1 in conference action. St. Thomas falls to 2-19 overall and 1-10 in the Summit League.
"It was a good test for us this weekend," said Head Coach Thanh Pham. "We played, in my opinion, two of the better teams in the conference. Very happy with our effort. Again positionally, we are outmatched in just a few sports, but I love how hard our team was fighting"
St. Thomas was led offensively by freshman Lauren Galvin who recorded a match-high 14 kills and hit .205. Galvin added five digs in the match. Defensively, the Tommies were led by senior Carrie Rutledge with a team-best 11 digs.
The Tommies dropped the first set by a score of 25-10. Galvin accounted for four of St. Thomas' 10 points in the first set. She also recorded one dig in the opening set.
In the second set, St. Thomas jumped out to an early 5-3 lead, but Omaha went on a 9-0 run to open up a 12-5 advantage that the Tommies couldn't recover from. The Mavericks went on to win set two, 25-15. Galvin recorded a team-high six kills in the set.
After being being tied 4-4 early in the third set, the Mavericks went on a 21-13 rally to win by a score of 25-17.
"I just want to say thank you to our administration for putting on great events, 'volloween' on Saturday was very fun, there were a lot of kids in costumes. I couldn't be more appreciative of the support we get at St. Thomas," Pham added.
St. Thomas returns to action on Thursday, October 28 at North Dakota State. The match is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
