Tommie Men's Soccer coach Jon Lowery has his program's first Division I signee.

Local prep and club soccer scoring standout Faris Colic signed a letter-of-intent on Wednesday, during the university's first participation in National Signing Day.

Colic will be part of St. Thomas men's soccer's first newcomer class for 2021 when the program debuts next fall in NCAA Division I.

Faris Colic, 2021, Anoka, Minn./Anoka High, White Bear SC

Plans on majoring in Criminal Justice while at St. Thomas… came to the U.S. from Bosnia at age three with his parents and an older sister… as a freshman broke Anoka High varsity record for most goals; also led the team in goals both his junior and senior seasons… an attacking standout, he competed nationally with White Bear Soccer Club and was a member of the Minnesota United Development Academy in 2019… son of Ramiza and Haris Colic.

Coach Lowery on Faris:

"Faris is an ambitious young man who brings an impressive work-ethic to St. Thomas both on and off the field.  We identified him early in the recruiting process for how responsible he approached his academics and soccer pursuits. He brings athleticism, good size (6-3) and has an electric left foot. He will boost our attack while defending soundly, and he's a great fit for our team-first culture."

Faris Colic comment:

"I chose St. Thomas because of the combination of excellent academics and athletics. For me, it was obvious this is a great place. It gives me the opportunity to be a student-athlete and to play Division I soccer, my goal since my first days as a youth player. Coach Lowery comes highly recommended and is the type of coach I want to play for. He has the type of team I want to work hard for as the program starts a new journey into Division I soccer."

The Tommies received NCAA approval last July to make an unprecedented direct move of all of its varsity sports from non-scholarship NCAA Division III into Division I.

Starting in fall 2021, St. Thomas Men's Soccer will be among 19 sports competing in the Summit League. The Tommies will also have teams in the Pioneer Football League for football; its women's hockey team in the Women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA); and its men's hockey team in the inaugural season of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
