Men's Hockey slips to playoff's third seed with 2-1 loss

2/16/2019 12:00:00 AM | Men's Hockey

Cullen Willox scored his ninth goal in the last 12 games, but St. Thomas Men's Hockey never led and was unable to capitalize on a prime opportunity in Saturday night's 2-1 loss to Hamline in MIAC play Saturday night in Mendota Heights.

Evan Roberts stopped 31 of 32 shots for the Pipers.

The Tommies (14-6-5 overall, 8-3-5 MIAC) lost a chance at a second-place finish in the conference standings. St. John's rallied to score the game's last three goals at Gustavus to win 7-5 and take second place behind champion Augsburg.

The Toms and Concordia shared third place, but the Purple will be the third seed in the conference playoffs and compete next Saturday at St. John's.

The Tommies' 25 game regular season slate produced five ties, nine one-goal decisions, and two other games where an empty-net goal created a two-goal winning margin.
