26+26+26+26=52 in Football's road win

10/27/2019 12:00:00 AM | Football

Senior running back Josh Parks broke the school record for career touchdowns and jump started Tommie Football in the second half of Saturday's 63-15 win at Carleton.

The No. 18-ranked Tommies (5-2 overall, 4-1 MIAC) sit in a second-place tie in the conference with Bethel with three games to play in the regular season.

St. Thomas led just 14-9 at halftime before Parks took a short pass and went 75 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the second half. The Tommies went on to score six more TDs in the final 28:00 on the clock and roll up 630 yards on the game.

Parks rushed 21 times for 180 yards and had the 75-yard scoring reception to close with 250 offensive yards on 22 touches along with four TDs. He also had an apparent 90-yard TD run erased by a unsportsmanlike penalty at the line of scrimmage.

In recording his 20th career 100-yard rushing day, Parks surpassed 4,000 career all-purpose yards, and his 52 touchdowns broke the school record of 50 held by Ben Wartman and Colin Tobin.

Junior QB Tommy Dolan passed for 202 yards and rushed for 62 in three quarters of play, with no turnovers.

Tyler Knutson made all nine PAT kicks. Five other Toms scored TDs: Vinny Pallini, Stephen Wagner, Nick Rice, Josh Komis and Ronnie Jones.

Carleton got a 48-yard field goal from Trent Ramirez to close the first half, passed for 251 yards, and connected for 21 first downs. But the Knights were forced to punt eight times and managed just one TD each half.

The Tommie defense faced 67 passes on the day. They had seven sacks, two by Alex Taylor; three other tackles for loss; allowed 37 net rushing yards on 18 attempts; and had takeaways by Sam Herriges (fumble recovery) and freshman Julian Cavan (interception).

St. Thomas returns to Northfield next Saturday to face St. Olaf.
