Men's Golf takes team title at Augsburg event

Sophomore Peder Larson shot one-under-par 71 on Sunday to close out an impressive weekend and lead No. 10-ranked St. Thomas to the team victory at the two-day, 36-hole Augsburg Invite at the Majestic Oaks course in Ham Lake.
The Tommies (287-298/585) posted a four-stroke win over Bethel and a six-stroke cushion on UW-Eau Claire. They beat teams from 11 other universities in their first competition of 2018-19.
Larson's 140 total (69-71) finished second among 103 players and first among 65 golfers from eight MIAC teams. Nebraska Wesleyan's Alex Kubik (72-67/139) edged Larson by one stroke for medalist honors.
UST's three teams finished first, eighth and 12th place and put three players in the top 13. Herb (72-73/145) tied for fifth and Ben Kisla (77-70/147) tied for 10th. Kusla's closing-day 70 was Sunday's third-best score of the torunament.
The Toms' first team this weekend was Larson, Herb, Miles McCarthy (69-82/151), Matt Mellin (78-73/151) and freshman Sawyer Bailey (77-81/156).

No. 10-ranked St. Thomas shot a one-under 287 on Saturday to build a five-shot lead at the halfway point of the 16-team Augsburg Invite. UST teams are in first, eighth and 12th place. The final 18 holes will be played Sunday.

Tommies Miles McCarthy (69) and Peder Larson (69) are tied for second place in a field of 103 players. Emmet Herb shot 72 and is tied for seventh. Michael Ritchay and Jack Sauro each shot 74s.
