Sophomore Jacob Makela and freshman Jack Barry each recorded ther first collegiate goals and Aidan Hogan and the St. Thomas Men's Soccer defense pitched another shutout with Sunday's 2-0 home win over Knox (Ill.) College in non-conference play at South Field.

The No. 6-ranked Tommies (2-0) have scored all four goals in the second halves of their two season victories. Coach Jon Lowery's team has recorded shutouts in eight of their last 10 home games dating back to last season.

St. Thomas continued three long win streaks as it secured its 19th home-field win in a row, its 16th regular-season win in a row, and its 35th consecutive victory in games when it scores two or more goals.

Makela took a through pass from Andrew Shirley and found the left lower inside of the net in the 52nd minute to snap a scoreless tie. UST received an insurance goal from Barry in the 83rd minute as he took a pass in the box from Will Kidd and scored from the left side. UST had a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. Hogan, a senior, took his 38th win in net and 24th shutout in 49 career games at UST.

St. Thomas plays its first road game Tuesday evenine at Northwestern-St. Paul.
